BRENT COTE

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brent “Moby” Cote announces his passing on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, 2026, in Dauphin, Manitoba, at the age of 73.

Brent was born in Dauphin on November 21, 1952, the middle of five children. After graduating from the Culinary Arts program at Red River Community College in 1970, he went on to pursue a lifelong career in the food industry. He began his career at La Vieille Gare in Winnipeg before eventually settling in Brandon, Manitoba with his new wife, Wendy (née Harder), where they started their family and he worked at several well-known establishments, including the Red Oak Inn and Kokonas. He later joined the Brandon General Hospital as Food Production Supervisor.

In 1990, after receiving a teaching position at DRCSS, Brent moved back to Dauphin with his two youngest children, Steven and Jarret, to begin what would become his most rewarding career — serving as a beloved Culinary Arts teacher for 24 years. He retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship, patience, and passion for cooking that impacted countless students.

Brent was an avid garage-saler, always on the lookout for treasures to add to his crock collection. He loved playing crib and rarely turned down a good game, especially if there was a little friendly competition involved. His favorite times were spent sitting around the table playing cards or games with his siblings, children, and grandchildren — even if that meant one of them shedding a few tears because he refused to simply let them win.

Brent was predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Irene Cote.

Left to mourn are his four siblings: Carolyn (Heather), Rick (Kathryn), Michael (Connie), and Rob (Darlene).

His legacy of kindness and devotion lives on through his children and grandchildren: Chris (Lori-Ann), Caitlin (Joel) and Jacob (Daphne); Carmen (Clay), Heidi; Steven (Melanie), Paul; and Jarret.

The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jarret for his endless support and dedicated care of our father.

A Funeral Service was held for Brent on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Fr. Christopher Dubois officiating.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Brent may be made to CancerCare Mantoba 675 McDermot Avenue Room 1160 Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Dauphin Friendship Centre Food For Thought School Lunch Program 210-1st Ave NE Dauphin, MB R7N 1A7.
